Ab 27. März 2011 verbindet KLM Royal Dutch Airlines als erste Fluggesellschaft die chinesische Stadt Xiamen nonstop mit Europa. Dreimal pro Woche startet die niederländische Airlines vom Flughafen Amsterdam-Schiphol zu ihrem insgesamt siebten Ziel in China. „Mit der Aufnahme der siebten Destination in China stärkt KLM ihre Position auf diesem schnell wachsenden Markt. Schon jetzt hat KLM hat KLM unter den europäischen Fluggesellschaften das größte Portfolio in der Region, mit Verbindungen nach China, Hongkong und Taiwan. Insgesamt bietet sie 43 wöchentliche Frequenzen, einschließlich der neuen Verbindung nach Xiamen“, erklärt Peter Hartman, Präsident und CEO, KLM.
KL883 startet jeweils dienstags, donnerstags und sonntags in Amsterdam-Schiphol und landet am Folgetag in Xiamen. Zurück geht es unter der Flugnummer KL884 montags, mittwochs und freitags vom Xiamen International Airport mit Ankunft in Amsterdam am Abflugtag. KLM setzt auf der Strecke eine Boeing 777-200ER ein. Sie bietet Platz für 318 Passagiere, davon 35 on der World Business Class und 283 in der Economy-Klasse. Von Xiamen bietet SkyTeam-Partner China Southern Airlines Anschlussflüge zu vielen weiteren Zielen in China.
Xiamen ist mit drei Millionen Einwohnern die zweitgrößte Stadt in der chinesischen Provinz Fujian. Tickets für die neue Verbindung nach Xiamen sind über alle Reservierungssysteme sowie www.klm.de buchbar.
